Anxiety Resources
Mind and Emotion is a relatively inexpensive workbook, with exercises and strategies applicable to both mood and anxiety disorders. Nice chapters on mindfulness and distress tolerance, which are both very helpful with anxiety.

Supplements
Patients often ask me about supplements or natural alternatives to standard treatment with medications. Through my participation in a Functional Medicine consult group, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner consult group, and regular continuing education participation, I have a good awareness of the current state of the science in mental health treatment. Based on that awareness, I do not believe that supplements can be a substitute for traditional treatment with FDA regulated medicines.
That said, some vitamins and "natural" products can be helpful when added to treatment as usual. Because of how frequently I am asked which supplements or supplement manufacturers I recommend, I have created an account with a web based supplement dispensary called HealthWave. I have customized my HealthWave page to include only the types of supplements that I feel are an acceptable combination of safe and supported by research. Similar products are sold in retail locations such as your local pharmacy or grocery store, but some brands are only available in coordination with a licensed healthcare provider through a dispensary such as HealthWave. In the United States, supplements are not as tightly regulated as pharmaceuticals. I have selected products from manufacturers that reportedly adhere to stricter quality standards and are regarded by many healthcare professionals as being of high quality, but other manufacturers may also produce good products. Choosing where to purchase a supplement is a personal decision based on a combination of cost, convenience, and your level of trust in the product and vendor. Please be wary of practitioners who require or pressure you to buy only the specific products that they sell!
Remember that the products listed are optional supplements, not replacements for your prescribed medications. Please discuss all medications and supplements with myself or another healthcare provider who is familiar with your case before initiation supplement therapy.
